NOUN TMA Preparation, Scores and Common Errors

Understand the role of TMAs, build a verifiable answer workflow and calculate how continuous assessment can affect a course result.

What TMA contributes to your result

NOUN describes tutor-marked assignments as part of continuous assessment. Its official FAQs say that, generally, TMAs contribute 30% and the final examination 70%, with variations by programme. Check the current assessment requirements for your particular course.

The important distinction is between the score displayed by an assignment activity and the contribution recorded toward the course total. A score of 8/10 for one quiz is not automatically the final 30-point continuous-assessment score.

Calculate a final mark without confusing scales

When a course uses the 30/70 split and both components are already shown as points out of 30 and 70, add the points directly. If scores are expressed as percentages, first convert them into their weighted contributions.

Do not count the same TMA twice or average incomplete TMAs as if all required activities had been graded.

Worked assessment calculation

  1. Illustrative continuous-assessment contribution: 24 out of 30.
  2. Illustrative end-of-course examination score: 49 out of 70.
  3. Overall course result: 24 + 49 = 73 out of 100.
  4. If instead you have TMA = 80% and exam = 70%, the weighted result is (0.80 × 30) + (0.70 × 70) = 24 + 49 = 73%.
  5. The actual weighting and grading thresholds must be verified for your programme.

Answer objective TMAs through evidence

Read the exact question wording, including qualifiers such as “except”, “not”, and “most likely”. Look up the relevant module and unit in the official course material. Compare each offered answer, not just the first plausible one.

If the options contain an obvious defect, note the discrepancy and preserve the original wording. Never treat a guessed answer as a confirmed correct answer merely because an AI tool sounded confident.

Keep proper records before deadlines

Track each TMA opening date, completion status and recorded score using the current official eLearn/course portal. Save your submission confirmation and consult official support if an activity is missing or results do not reflect correctly.

Avoid entering login credentials into unofficial websites, and never share your account details with a person offering to “guarantee” scores. PsalmEduLabs revision materials are independent study aids, not a replacement for the university portal.

Review wrong answers after submission

Group errors by course topic. If two missed questions concern research sampling, reread that unit and practise a different example. This converts a TMA result into useful exam preparation.

For longer written TMAs, cite course concepts accurately and submit your own work within the applicable academic-integrity rules.

Your practical checklist

  • I understand the applicable assessment weighting.
  • I can show my TMA and examination calculation.
  • I check all questions against course materials.
  • I have verified submission and score on the official portal.
